As a close-knit community, Wellington embraces local arts and crafters, home industries and local produce that are available from various outlets.

The town boasts two leather factories, one of which, Redemption, is as synonymous with Wellington, as it is world-renowned.

Exquisite yarns, knitwear, throws, blankets and rugs are available at the Alpaca farm.

The Breytenbach Sentrum is a multi-disciplinary cultural centre that educates,  create experiences and train people in visual arts, music, drama and writing. It is an inspiring place to experience art, music and drama. There is always a new show, exhibition, idea, educational or conversation taking place.

The Breytenbach Gallery with its beautiful wooden floors, thick walls and high ceilings  offer an unique exhibition experience in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Exhibits of excellent South African artists as well as international artists takes place throughout the year.

Cape Alpaca sources fibre carefully selected and farmed by Quenti Alpaca & Mill, as well as other local growers. Their yarn is custom spun in the Quenti Mill from the herd of meticulously bred and sensitively farmed alpaca. Many of their products can be traced to specific groups of animals. With a growing range of exquisite yarns, throws, blankets, rugs and knitwear, Cape Alpaca aims to develop long term relationships with a growing local and international customer base.

The Bôrdienghuis is an intimate venue at the Breytenbach Sentrum. Regular shows of cabaret, drama and music gets showcased here. The venue is also ideal for small, intimate celebrations, conferences and book- and product launches.

Redemption fine handcrafted leather had its origins in the late 1970’s when an ambitious young man, André Olivier, developed his passion for leather work. Arnold Slabber, the current owner, saw Andre’s leather products and immediately was attracted to the quality and creativity of it. Arnold already manufactured handmade leather products of his own. André’s shop in Loop Street, Cape Town became an outlet for Arnold’s leather goods. When André made a career change, he presented Arnold with the opportunity to purchase the business from him. In March 1982 the Slabber’s became the new owners of Redemption fine handcrafted leather. The factory and the factory shop are situated outside Wellington on route to Bainskloof pass. The Slabber’s still continue with the handmade tradition using only genuine leather for their wide range of products.
