Though surrounded by tranquil farmlands, Wellington has all the conveniences of a modern town. Supermarket chains, gyms and beauty spas, fashion and furniture retailers, hardware and liquor stores, cell phone and electronic product suppliers, fast-food outlets, and nurseries are situated alongside exclusive boutiques, family grocers, fisheries, shoe-repairs, home-bake shops, purveyors of second-hand goods, antiques, and a variety of small, privately-owned enterprises including printers, photographic developers and Internet cafés.

A number of factory shops and wholesalers are located in the industrial area on the outskirts of town.

Some commercial enterprises are unique to the town and provide services that support and nurture the wine industry across the Western Cape and beyond.

Redemption Leather’s fine handcrafted leather has its origins in the late 1970s and is one of the town’s biggest draw-cards.

Unique to Wellington is the “Stokkiesdraai” vine nursery at Bosman Family Vineyards. Approximately 85% of South Africa’s vineyards are planted from vines grafted in Wellington. The well-known Malan family of Wellington have also been in the “stokkies” business for more than six generations.

James Sedgewick state-of-the-art distillery is where Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky is distilled and was recently acknowledged as the World’s leading single grain whisky. In addition Jorgensen’s produce pot still brandy, vodka, absinthe and gin.

The head office of Quantum Foods, which includes Tydstroom Farms, Nulaid Eggs and Nova Feeds, is located in Wellington.

Pacmar Juices began operations in 1997 and can best be described as a contract packaging company that currently package juices for larger brands, for both the domestic and international markets.

Nibbly Bits, founded in 1996, produces handcrafted rusks, biscuits, cookies and snacks.

Glodina Towel factory supplies businesses such as Woolworths and a variety of other chain stores and interior design outlets. Glodina stocks a wide range of towels including a bamboo and cotton mix and an Egyptian cotton range.

Lategan’s Cement Works is a well-established family business that supplies pre-cast concrete products including Ready Mix concrete, blocks and bricks, lintels, paving products, water channels and kerbstones.
