M&F Agri Wellington Wine Route excelled at the SA Terroir Awards by walking away with 3 national awards for the Best Petit Verdot (Doolhof), Best Merlot (Welbedacht) and best Pintotage (Diemersfontein).

This year the fifth annual Mutual & Federal Agri Wellington Wine Route “Quest for the Best” was celebrated with an awards luncheon at the prestigious new events venue, Au’ de Hex Boutique Hotel in Wellington on Wednesday 13 August.

Wellington received top accolades in the SA Terroir Awards when it was proclaimed SA Terroir Top Wine Area 2010. The great wines which contributed to this prestigious award were:  Signatures of Doolhof Petit Verdot 2008, Diemersfontein Carpe Diem Pinotage 2008, Schalk Burger & Sons Weldbedacht Chenin Blanc 2005, Merlot 2007, Cricket Pitch 2006.

In the Michelangelo International Wine Awards Dunstone Shiraz 2008, Welgegund Pinotage 2009 and Mischa Estate Merlot triumphed with Double Gold.

Dunstone Winery made Wellington proud in achieving a 5 star Platter for their Shiraz 2008, then followed it up with an Old Mutual Trophy Gold Award and an International Wine Challenge Gold.

Doolhof Signatures Malbec 2008 won Gold in the sought after Decanter Awards.

Schalk Burger & Sons was one of the Absa Top Ten Pinotage with their Welbedacht Wine Estate Pinotage 2008.

Veritas yielded 2 Double Golds and 5 Golds: Signatures of Doolhof Merlot 2007 and Wellington Cellar Port 1982, Bovlei Centenary Collection Merlot 2007, Welbedacht Bush Vine Chening Blanc 2005, Welbedacht Merlot 2007, Wellington Cellar Chardonnay  2008, Wellington Cellar Chardonnay Methode Cap Classique 2008.

In the Quest for the Best judged by esteemed judges chaired by Dave Hughes, Wellington honoured its own winemakers: Bovlei Cellar Selected Shiraz 2009 (Top Wine), Wellington Cellars Chardonnay 2010 (Chardonnay Best), Bosman Family Vineyards Optenhorst Chenin Blanc 2009 (Best Chenin Blanc and Best Overall White Wine), Bovlei Cellar Selected Shiraz 2009 (Best Red), Diemersfontein Thokozani SMV 2009 (Best Red Blend), Diemersfontein Carpe Diem Pinotage 2008 (Best Pinotage) and Bovlei Cellaer Selected Shiraz 2009 (Best Shiraz).
