Alkmaar is a historic boutique vineyard located in the Blouvlei area at the foothills of the Hawequa mountains and known by locals as the “Perdeskoen” or “Horseshoe”.
The Farm was founded by Dr Marinus Jacobus Stucki who established the first Dutch School on Alkmaar in the Blouvlei area in 1868 where he devoted 42 years of his life and aptly named it after his town of birth in the Netherlands. Students of the school were Springbok Paul Roos, Judge H.S. van Zyl, Prof. G.G. Cillié, Pastor. D. Wilcocks, Poet J.D. Cilliers, Willem Conradie and prof. Sarel van der Merwe
Cultivars planted on the farm are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Viognier, Mourvèdre, Pinotage and Chardonnay vines. The 9 hectares vineyard has the perfect terroir of shale and granite producing award winning wines of Rhône and Bordeaux style, as well as our proudly South African Pinotage which earned a Platter’s four star rating.
