Wellington Excels in Michelangelo International Awards

At the recent Michelangelo International Wine Awards, Wellington’s Bosman Family Vineyards Sur Lie Chenin Blanc 2011 has walked away with the Trophy for the Best Fairtrade White Wine from South Africa.

Of the 179 gold medals (Grand D’Or) and 261 silver medals awarded by the 15 international judges, 27 are proudly Wellington. Gold medals: Doolhof Signatures Malbec 2009, Pinotage 2009 and Lady in White 2010, Douglas Green Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay 2010, Mischa Eventide Shiraz 2008, Schalk Burger & Sons Meerkat Pinotage 2009 (one of the ABSA Top 10) and Welbedacht Pinotage 2009, Val du Charron Black Countess 2010, La Cave Pinotage 2008, Welgegund Pinotage 2010 and Shiraz 2009, Wellington Wines Chardonnay 2011 and Linton Park Chardonnay 2009. A further 13 wines achieved silver: Bosman Family Vineyards Sur Lie Chenin Blanc 2011, Diemersfontein Carpe Diem Chenin 2010, Woolman Founders’ Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2008, La Cave Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage 2009, Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, Linton Park Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Val du Charron Erasmus 2009, Lazanou Chardonnay, Chenin and Viognier 2010, Welbedacht Chenin Blanc 2005, Mischa Roussane 2010, Eventide Shiraz 29007 and Eventide Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

As a precursor to the Michelangelo, Wellington, bearer of the title SA Terroir Top Wine Area 2010 and supplier of over 85% of the wine industry’s rootstock,  sported no less than 4 National winners in the 2011 SA Terroir competition.
